COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – To help build relationships between local law enforcement and the community, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, participated in National Night Out last week.

“This annual event is one opportunity for the community to come out and show our support for local police who sacrifice every day to keep our neighborhoods safe,” Stuart said. “Law enforcement and our men and women in blue are critical to our community. It’s why I am sponsoring House Bill 778 to classify crimes against our officers as hate crimes. I understand how important it is that we have a responsibility to defend those who keep our families and our communities safe.”

National Night Out is a nationwide opportunity for local police to interact with their communities and foster relationships in order to make neighborhoods safer.  Stuart is sponsoring House Resolution 122 to encourage police departments throughout the state to create a community liaison police officer program to create and maintain positive relationships between the community and law enforcement.
