SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, issued the following statement in response to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s veto of equitable funding for public education:

“I am disappointed Governor Rauner has chosen to plunge Illinois into another crisis by vetoing the bipartisan education funding reform measure passed by the Legislature. The measure I supported provides over $10 million in new funding for Will County schools. The governor’s veto is now jeopardizing school funding for every school district in the state.”

“Governor Rauner admitted he agreed with 90 percent of the education funding reform measure. Instead of signing this comprehensive reform measure, he has failed to do his job and has failed our children by using them as pawns to advance his right-wing agenda.

“I am prepared to work with all sides to end the governor’s education crisis, ensure our schools open on time, and give our students and teachers the resources they need to succeed.”
