STREAMWOOD, Ill. – To help prepare local families for the upcoming school year, state Rep. Fred Crespo, D-Hoffman Estates, is hosting two Backpack Drives for local families. The first will be with Centro de Informacion on Wednesday, August 8 from 10 am to 1:00 pm at Ontarioville Elementary, located at 2100 Elm Ave in Hanover Park; and the second will be his annual Back-To-School Backpack Giveaway with Hanover Township and Cook County Commissioner Timothy Schneider on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Astor Avenue Community Center, located at 7431 Astor Ave. in Hanover Park.
“Education is a top priority for me, and our annual backpack drive helps make sure that every child has the supplies they need to succeed in the new school year,” Crespo said. “This is my favorite event all year, and I am thankful that we are able to offer this unique service to local families once again.”
Township youth enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade will be eligible to receive a free backpack filled with essential school supplies. Attendees are asked to bring proof of Hanover Township residency, such as a government issued ID, utility bill or bank statement. The backpacks will be given on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to one per student.
“Access to a quality education for all children is within reach at this very moment, and as their voice in Springfield, I’m doing whatever it takes to make sure measure like Senate Bill 1 are signed into law,” Crespo said. “But for now, I will continue to host local events like our backpack drive to ensure every child has the tools they need to get ahead.”
