CHICAGO – In an effort to help protect immigrant families from the extreme, xenophobic immigration policies of the Trump Administration, state Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, is partnering with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association to offer a “Know Your Rights” Seminar on Thursday July 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Northeastern Illinois University—El Centro Campus located at 3390 N Avondale Ave. in Chicago.
“As the son of immigrants from Ecuador, the hateful rhetoric that has been propagated by Donald Trump and his administration is alarming,” Andrade said. “We need to send a clear message to immigrant communities that they are welcome in our neighborhoods and that we stand with them in solidarity.”
Andrade is partnering with the Logan Square Neighborhood Association to offer a “Know Your Rights” seminar. Residents will be able to learn about their rights as immigrants, the limits of what the government can do, and about the different forms of immigration fraud. The presentation will be conducted in Spanish, however, staff will be on hand to answer questions in both English and Spanish.
“No one should be living with the constant fear that they could be separated from their family and friends,” Andrade said. “The goal of this seminar is to inform immigrant residents—whether they’re citizens or undocumented—of their legal rights and to reassure them that they have allies in our neighborhoods.”
