SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, released the following statement regarding the House’s passage of a bipartisan, balanced budget, yesterday:
“Putting the well-being of the state first, I stood with Republicans and Democrats to pass a budget that is a strong first step in repairing the damage that has occurred under Governor Rauner’s corporate agenda.
“The bipartisan, balanced budget we passed last night ensures that schools will open on time, critical services for our most vulnerable residents will be funded, and the state will not be branded with catastrophic junk-bond status.
“Our proposal cut billions of dollars in spending—spending less than the governor’s proposed budget—and makes sure that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share by closing tax loopholes that huge corporations have used to rig the system.
“I urge the Governor to come to his senses, do his job and support this bipartisan proposal that will bring this painful impasse to an end.”
