ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, a longtime advocate for local taxpayers and property tax relief is teaming up with local township assessors to host a free series of “Understanding Your Property Taxes”events.
“I am proud of my recent legislation that would cut property taxes for middle-class families, small business owners, seniors and disabled veterans, but my work is ongoing,” Yingling said. “Property taxes are overly complicated, and it’s important for residents to know how to interpret their bills and how to educate themselves about getting a fair and accurate assessment. My events will help educate taxpayers and empower homeowners with the tools they need to ensure that they are not overpaying their property taxes.”
Attendees will learn about the factors that determine how their properties are assessed, what each line item on their bill means and how to appeal their taxes. Residents will also receive a brief legislative update from Yingling on his efforts to reduce property taxes and have a chance to have their questions and concerns addressed.
The first event will be held with Warren Township Assessor Charlie Mullin on Wednesday, June 28 at the Warren Township Center located at 17801 W. Washington St. in Gurnee from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. The second event will be held with Avon Township Assessor Chris Ditton at the Avon Township Center located at 433 E. Washington St. in Round Lake from 6 pm to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, July 19. Both events are free and open to the public. RSVPs are not necessary but they are appreciated. For more information or to RSVP, residents can call Yingling’s office at 847-231-6262 or email him at RepSamYingling@gmail.com.
“These seminars will help taxpayers understand what each item on their tax bill means, as well as help them understand which exemptions they are eligible to apply for,” Yingling added. “The goal is to help people understand the process and hopefully help them save a few dollars along the way.”
