SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is sponsoring Senate Joint Resolution 10 in the Illinois House of Representatives, which would establish a statewide task force to develop employment opportunities and to assist any young Illinois adults seeking gainful employment.

“It is critical that young people in our neighborhoods are able to get jobs,” said Harper. “But they need to be inspired and led down a path to gain marketable skills, especially when those opportunities are so hard to find.”

Harper is sponsoring Senate Joint Resolution 10, which would establish the Statewide Task Force on Developing Opportunities for Youth and Young Adults to study available opportunities for unemployed youth across Illinois. Harper believes this taskforce initiative could explore ways to do the much needed street level outreach to youth and young adults who are unemployed, so that they may be educated about and led to the right programs, schools and jobs to improve their quality of life.

“It is our duty as public servants to truly serve all of our children, especially our disconnected youth, so that they won’t have to fall victim to crime or incarceration but instead be led down many different paths of success, ones this taskforce can help define.” Harper said. “Work is rewarding and I know because I talk to my youth every day, that they want nothing else but to work and be proud of it. This bill helps provide a path to that opportunity.”
