SPRINGFIELD, IL – Committed to making sure that college is affordable, state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, is highlighting a scholarship opportunity open to women continuing their education through the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL).

“Non-traditional students, often have a difficult time finding financial assistance,” Gordon-Booth said. “The goal of this scholarship is to help defray costs for women going back to school to get an education that will allow them to better provide for their family. I encourage anyone who might be interested to apply for this scholarship as soon as possible.”

Gordon-Booth works with other members of COWL to address issues in the state that affect women and their families. This scholarship fund is one way women legislators try to give back to women across the state. Scholarship applicants are required to be enrolled in an Illinois college or university for a minimum of six credit hours. The scholarship committee will also consider the women volunteer or community service work. Applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2017 and can be found at http://cowlil.com/scholarship-fund.

“This scholarship is one small way to help students looking to further their education,” Gordon-Booth said. “I know that we must do a better job funding colleges and universities across the state and funding programs like MAP grants which help students of all ages pay for college. Every dollar that we invest in higher education is returned when we have a strong, educated workforce.”
