SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, issued the following statement after Wednesday’s vote for House leadership in the 100th Illinois General Assembly:

“Today, I chose the candidate who will stand with me in the fight to protect middle class families. We have seen an unprecedented attack on working families by Governor Bruce Rauner and his billionaire allies, who are more interested in padding their profits and leading our state in a race to the bottom. Simply put, I supported the candidate who will put the middle class over the corporate class.

“Instead of supporting the governor’s corporate agenda, I strongly stand behind the House Democratic Economic Agenda that will crack down on companies who outsource jobs to other countries, raise the minimum wage and lift the middle class up.

“Today’s vote offered two choices, and I chose to reflect the values that residents consistently express to me while walking door-to-door. We have a lot of challenges to solve in Springfield this session, but I am optimistic of the work we can now begin.”
