SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Anthony DeLuca, D-Chicago Heights, issued the following statement after being sworn in to serve as state Representative of the 80th district:
“I’m honored to once again have the opportunity to serve the residents of the 80th district. We are starting 2017 without a budget in place, and addressing this is my highest priority. Without a budget, many of the most vulnerable in our community are put at risk, including our seniors, veterans and children. It’s unacceptable to enter another calendar year without a budget, and I remain committed to working with both parties toward a full solution.
“During the past year and a half the only time the state had a budget was when Democrats and Republicans set aside their differences and worked together. We need to work again in the same cooperative manner, through working groups and open discussions, in order to finally put the budget impasse behind us.
“I know that getting a budget alone is not going to fix all of the problems Illinois is facing. We must also find ways to increase transparency and accountability in government, bring good-paying jobs to our community and protect our most vulnerable citizens.”
