DES PLAINES, Ill. – To help seniors better protect themselves from financial fraud, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, state Sen. Laura Murphy, D-Des Plaines, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, and the US Bank will be hosting a senior scam and fraud prevention seminar on Friday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Schaumburg Senior Center, located at 231 Civic Drive in Schaumburg.

“Scammers are constantly creating new ways to rob seniors out of their hard-earned money,” Moylan said. “This free seminar will detail the latest scams and the steps residents can take to better protect themselves and their families from financial fraud.”

Moylan’s free senior scam and fraud prevention seminar will feature an expert from US Bank who discuss the latest trends targeting older residents. Some examples that will be discussed are lottery, sweetheart, and Western Union scams. Attendees will receive guidance on how to handle these either with the bank, law enforcement or the postal service.

“With today’s technology, consumers are bombarded with scams at a rate never seen before and one can never be too cautious,” Moylan said. “I encourage residents who have received suspicious letters or emails to bring them to the seminar to receive one-on-one guidance.”
