SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –State Rep. Elizabeth “Lisa” Hernandez, D-Cicero, released the following statement after the Governor Rauner’s Budget Address:

“Year after year, Governor Rauner has introduced unbalanced budgets that benefit corporations and the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. Working families cannot afford another 700 day Rauner budget crisis. In those 700 days, our schools were barely funded, universities nearly collapsed, and people in need were denied services because organizations were deprived of funding.

“While it took Democrats and Republicans coming together to put an end to the governor’s crisis, there is still more work be done to create an economy that works for everyone, expand access to health care, and ensure schools in my community receive the $20 million in additional funding they were promised. Yet today, the governor presented us with nothing more than empty political rhetoric.

“This is not the time for political games. Our communities need solutions, so if the governor refuses to change course, legislators must work together to solve the issues facing our state without him.”
