SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Laura Fine, D-Glenview, released the following statement after Gov. Rauner’s State of the State Address:

“While Donald Trump forced through his tax hike on the middle-class and attempted to deny health care to millions of Illinoisans, Governor Rauner, despite the many calls to action, stayed silent. He has refused time and time again to negotiate with legislators and meet Democrats halfway. He vetoed commonsense legislation that would offer greater transparency into the state’s finances, a veto that the House unanimously overrode. That’s not leadership, and it’s certainly not governing.

“Gov. Rauner himself admitted just a few weeks ago that he’s ‘not in charge.’ The last 3 years of his tenure and his address today proved that. The governor has failed to lead and failed to stand up for middle-class families. My priorities have and continue to be focused on fighting against the dangerous Trump-Rauner agenda which raises taxes on the backs of the middle-class and decreases access to affordable health care, all to give the ultra-wealthy a break. I’m ready to continue our work with both sides of the aisle to move the middle-class forward. I hope Gov. Rauner will decide to join us.”
