SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia, D-Aurora, released the following statement in response to Gov. Rauner’s State of the State Address:
“Last year, it took Democrats and Republicans to come together—despite the governor’s objections—to pass a balanced budget that funds the programs and services that help working families get ahead. However, there is more work be done to create an economy that works for everyone, to provide real property tax relief, and to expand access to health care.
“Governor Rauner has the opportunity this year to step up, govern and lead, but so far, he has given legislators nothing more than empty political rhetoric. Our communities need solutions. Local schools in Aurora need the $18 million in additional funding they were promised. I am not going to sit back and let the governor fail our families. I will work with legislators from both sides of aisle to move our state forward and expand opportunity for working families.”
