CHICAGO – State Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, state Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Evergreen Park, and state Sen. Bill Cunningham, D-Chicago, are hosting a free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Palos Park Recreation Center, located at 8901 W. 123rd St., in Palos Park.

“Unfortunately, no matter how cautious we are, we are all vulnerable to becoming victims of crime or finding ourselves in difficult and even violent situations,” said Hurley. “Acts of violence can happen to anyone any time, stressing the importance of being properly educated and prepared in order to protect yourself. These free seminars will help women learn the best ways to protect themselves in an act of violence.”

Hurley, Burke and Cunningham will welcome a trained law enforcement officer to lead the Self-Defense Seminar, which is aimed at increasing awareness and keeping women safe. This free, interactive seminar will provide information and techniques for protecting yourself from assailants. Those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by calling Hurley’s constituent service office at 773-445-8128, or by email at repfranhurley@gmail.com

“This workshop will teach individuals basic self-defense and important safety measures,” Hurley said. “Knowing and using these precautions will help participants avoid dangerous situations and protect themselves if necessary. I encourage anyone interested in learning more to stop by.”
