CHICAGO – As brutally frigid weather makes its way throughout the nation, state Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is informing residents about local warming centers throughout the city and opening her office to local residents for a chance to stop by and warm up if needed.

“Chicagoans are no strangers to these freezing conditions, but that does not mean people have to suffer from them,” said Harper. “Anyone in need should feel free to stop by my office, or a local warming center to get out of the weather, or if they face living somewhere without heat.”

Harper is opening her constituent services office as a heating location for people to use when they need. These winter conditions create potentially deadly situations, and Harper wants people to utilize her office to fight the cold and stay warm. Residents should stop by 4926 S. Ashland for a chance to get out of the cold. The nearest warming center in Harper’s district can be found at 4313 S. Ashland offered by the Department of Human Services. For additional warming centers, residents should look at this website for help: https://www2.illinois.gov/sites/KeepWarm/SitePages/WarmingCenters.aspx.

“We should expect more days like these where people need to take the necessary precautions to avoid longtime exposure to the cold and freezing temperatures,” said Harper. “It is important that people know the dangers of exposure to the cold and take steps to keep themselves safe by using a warming center if necessary.”

Harper represents the 6th District, which includes all or portions of Armour Square, Bridgeport, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, Gage Park, Back of the Yards, Canaryville, New City, West Englewood, and Marquette Park.
