CHICAGO – State Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, is reminding residents that the enrollment deadline for residents to sign up for health coverage in the individual marketplace is Friday, Dec. 15.

“Donald Trump and his extreme Washington allies fought this year to end the ability for people with pre-existing conditions like heart disease and cancer to receive life-saving coverage,” D’Amico said. “While Trump was unsuccessful, he is continuing his attack on our health care by refusing to inform people in need of care that the window to apply is now open. We all must lead where Trump has chosen to retreat. I want every resident to know about the opportunity to receive health insurance through the marketplace.”

Those that are interested in signing up for health insurance should sign up at healthcare.gov or call 800-318-2596 or GetCovered Illinois at 866-311-1119 or getcovered.illinois.gov. In Illinois, a family of four above $33,000 and below $98,000 might be eligible for subsidies to offset the cost of insurance. To see how much you might save, go to healthcare.gov/lower-costs.

D’Amico has long been an advocate for high-quality, affordable health care. Earlier this year D’Amico opposed Trump’s massive federal health care overhaul that would strip health care coverage for an estimated 24 million people nationwide. D’Amico also voted to prohibit Illinois insurers from denying care on the basis of a pre-existing condition.

“Health insurance is incredibly confusing,” D’Amico continued. “I encourage everyone to sit down and take the time and reach out to advocates who can help explain the insurance process.”
