AURORA, Ill. – With many in the area preparing for the holiday season, state Rep Linda Chapa LaVia, D-Aurora, is advising residents to consult the attorney general’s Safe Shopping Guide before purchasing gifts for their children, relatives and friends.

“As the mother of two daughters, I understand the importance of our children’s safety,” Chapa LaVia said. “Through the use of the Safe Shopping Guide, we can better protect our children from products that have been recalled.”

The Illinois Attorney General’s 2017 Safe Shopping Guide aims to help prevent injuries to children that could come from toys and other items given as gifts. The guide highlights 70 items that have been recalled over the past year, ranging from hover boards to furniture, that have been removed from shelves for choking hazards, burn risk and other factors. Residents can view the guide online at: www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2017_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf.
