JOLIET, Ill. – As local residents start their holiday shopping, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is highlighting resources available to help make sure that gifts purchased this year are safe for children.

“We all want to make sure our loved ones get exactly what is on their wish list,” Manley said. “However, it is also important that we make sure that these gifts are safe for the children who will play with them.”

To make sure holiday gifts are safe, Manley recommends that parents read through this year’s toy safety guide, released by Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office. The guide includes information about toys, clothing and electronics that have been recalled due to safety hazards. The Attorney General’s complete safety guide for holiday gift giving can be found at: http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2017_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf.

“There have been a lot of toy recalls throughout the year, which is why it’s helpful to look at this guide,” Manley said. “It’s worth it for parents to take a few minutes to review it and have the peace of mind that their gifts are safe and appropriate.”
