CHICAGO – To help ensure that consumers are purchasing the safest toys and products over the holiday season, state Rep. Sonya Harper, D-Chicago, is highlighting Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s Safe Shopping Guide to offer consumers up-to-date information on holiday gifts and items that have been recalled over the past year.

“People should always have the best information handy when it comes to buying toys, gifts and other items for their loved ones and friends,” Harper said. “There can be recalls on some items, which people should know about before they buy something. This guide highlights potentially dangerous items for consumers.”

Each year the Illinois Attorney General’s Office releases its Safe Shopping Guide to bring the most recent information on products that consumers may intend to purchase over the holiday season. The 2017 report is the tenth annual report submitted from the office. Before people make their purchases, Harper is highlighting the important data on which toys, furniture and household items have a recall history and could harm children and others.

“I’m proud my office has helped busy and overwhelmed parents make sure their homes are free of unsafe toys and products for the past 10 years,” Madigan said. “I am confident the 2017 Safe Shopping Guide continues that tradition.”

Attorney General Madigan’s 2017 Safe Shopping Guide can be found here. For more information about recalled products, residents can contact the Recall Hotline at 1-888-414-7678 or sign up to receive recall alerts directly at recalls.gov.
