JOLIET, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, recently spent the day visiting teachers and students at Jamie McGee Elementary while she shadowed Principal Tony Valenza.

“While our teachers and administrators face many challenges, they are doing everything they can to ensure that our students have the best education possible,” Manley said. “I enjoyed seeing all of the ways the teachers made school fun and entertaining for our students. I would like to thank Principal Valenza and the staff at Jamie McGee Elementary for allowing me to spend the day with them.”

Throughout the day, Manley visited classrooms throughout the school and participated in lessons planned by teachers. She took time to read to students, answer questions and described her job to them. Additionally, she spoke to administrators and educators to learn about their concerns and how she could possibly address them in Springfield.

“It was a pleasure having Rep. Manley at our school,” Valenza said. “She was a natural with the students, starting at morning arrival by welcoming them and giving them positive messages to start the day. She really went out of her way to make our staff and students feel important. The best was seeing her facilitate a group of first graders as they did pumpkin math and science activities!”
