BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Buffalo Grove, is encouraging residents to shop local this weekend in an effort to support small businesses during the holiday season rush that often benefits big-box stores and online retailers over small businesses.

“Small Business Saturday is a way to support small businesses that during the holiday season have to compete against the big box stores and online retailers,” Carroll said. “Small businesses in our neighborhood employ friends and neighbors, donate money to local charities, sponsor little league teams and volunteer in the community.”

Saturday, Nov. 26 marks the 7th annual Small Business Saturday, which was created to boost small business sales during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. Shopping locally helps provide jobs for area residents, tax revenue, sponsorships for community groups, support for charities and excellent personalized services.

“Our local community succeeds when small businesses succeed,” Carroll continued. “I encourage folks to shop at small businesses not only on Small Business Saturday, but year-round.”
