CARRIER MILLS, Ill. – Following the recent announcement that Sahara Woods State Fish and Wildlife Area, formerly the Sahara mines, will open an ATV park, state Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie, D-Elizabethtown, issued the below statement:
“Earlier this week, I was honored to attend the announcement of the Sahara Woods ATV Park that is tentatively scheduled to open in 2019. This park will be a wonderful asset to our region. Many folks from around our state and surrounding states will now come to Saline County to enjoy trails and other activities at Sahara Woods, which will bring great opportunities for economic stimulus to our region.
“These tourists will be eating in our restaurants and shopping in our many unique stores. This exciting development is the manifestation of hard work on the part of my predecessor, former state Rep. Brandon Phelps, state Sen. Dale Fowler, Illinois Department of Natural Resources Director Wayne Rosenthal and his staff, and Hunter John with ABATE. This is a terrific example of how bipartisan efforts can bring real opportunities to Southern Illinois.”
Senator Dale Fowler had the following comments to share regarding this project: “This project is an example of how government is supposed to work. We are capitalizing on and enhancing an existing state asset to in order to better serve our communities. This park is a great investment for local residents and businesses. For residents of Southern Illinois, this new park is another family-friendly entertainment option right here in their own backyard.”
