When I walk door-to-door, I hear too many stories of residents who want to stay in their home but are faced with the crippling burden of high property taxes. With local rates skyrocketing, it’s clear that something needs to be done on the state level to provide real property tax relief for our homeowners. That is why I voted for legislation that would do just that.
Senate Bill 851 would implement an immediate two-year freeze here in Kane County. Additionally, it would give taxpayers the power to extend the freeze through referendum. The proposal not only freezes bills, it cuts them by increasing exemptions for seniors and other homeowners as well.
Now that this bill has passed in the House, I continue to walk through neighborhoods with a property tax relief petition for residents to sign so that I can show fellow legislators in the Senate how badly this is needed not just for Aurora and North Aurora, but for all Illinoisans. Residents who would like more information on Senate Bill 851 or would like to sign the petition, can do so by contacting my district office at 630-270-1848. Constituents can also support this legislation by submitting a witness slip in favor of Senate Bill 851 on ilga.gov.
