AURORA, Ill. – Last week, state Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia, D-Aurora, visited East Aurora High School to officially launch an internship program created to provide upperclassmen with the opportunity to explore different career paths and gain valuable job experience with local businesses.
“Giving students the opportunity to intern with a variety of businesses and non-profit organizations will allow them to realize their own potential and encourage them to set goals for the future,” Chapa LaVia said. “I want this program to be a source of inspiration for students as well as a foundation for their career development.”
During the meeting, Chapa LaVia, organizations and businesses that are participating in the program sat down with students to learn about their interests and career goals. Students were also able to learn more about each of the businesses and organizations through one-on-one interviews and small group discussions.
“It was absolutely wonderful to watch Linda and our Aurora business and organization leaders interact with our Tomcats,” said Andrew Rathje, East Aurora High School’s counselor and career specialist. “I know wonderful things are going to happen for both our students and our community as a result of these newly formed partnerships.”
