RED BUD, Ill. – In a time where natural and manmade disasters occur far too frequently, state Rep. Jerry Costello II, D-Smithton, is applauding the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) for awarding nearly $50,000 to Monroe and Perry Counties’ emergency management agencies.
“As a former law enforcement officer, I understand the necessity of a well-equipped emergency management agency,” Costello said. “With these grants, Monroe and Perry Counties can be better prepared in case a disaster hits our community.”
The grants were given to the counties in order to update and modernize their emergency operations centers. The funding will be used to buy new computers, projectors, printers, phones, radios and other equipment necessary for a prepared emergency operations center.
“Emergency Operations Centers are the nerve center for coordinating emergency response efforts,” said IEMA Director James K. Joseph. “We focused these grant awards on counties that most needed basic technology and other equipment to help them serve their residents during emergencies.”
State Rep. Jerry Costello II represents Illinois’ 116th district, which includes all or parts of St. Clair, Randolph, Monroe, and Perry Counties. His office can be reached by phone at 618-282-7284 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
