SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – September is National Preparedness Month, and state Rep. Linda Chapa, D-Aurora, is reminding her constituents of the importance of planning in the event of an emergency.
“With Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hitting Texas and Florida over the past few weeks, we need to prepare for disasters within our state.” Chapa LaVia said. “Whether it’s a fire in the home or a natural disaster, families can help protect themselves by proactively putting together a plan.”
National Preparedness Month is a yearly event put on by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that emphasizes the theme of “Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead. You Can.” During the month of September, FEMA encourages families to create a plan in case of a disaster, set up a way to help neighbors and to practice their emergency plan.
