VERNON HILLS, Ill. – As Lake County continues to recover from historic levels of flooding, State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, wants residents to know her office is ready to direct residents towards the local, state and federal flood relief resources they require.

“The frustration and costs from flood damage continue in the weeks and months after the initial flooding occurs,” Sente said. “My office is here to help in whatever way we can.”

Sente suggests that residents read through lakecountyil.gov/flood, which provides many resources for those affected by the flood. On this site, residents can fill out an online form helping them qualify for disaster relief, read more about flooding safety tips and stay up to date on the flooding levels in their community.

In addition, Sente wants residents to know the American Red Cross will be operating relief shelters for those who have been affected by the flood, in addition to a Multi-Agency Operating Center (MARC), where people can speak to representatives from many charities and agencies in one place. Due to the Red Cross’ constantly changing schedule, Rep. Sente encourages residents that want to find out the location of a shelter or MARC to call the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago at 847-220-7495, visit redcross.org/local/illinois/chicago-northern-illinois or visit facebook.com/chicagoredcross/.

Alternatively, residents can contact Rep. Sente’s office at 847-478-9909 or RepSente@gmail.com with questions about any local services or shelters.

“During the chaos this flood swept through, I have been heartened by the courage exemplified by our emergency responders, professionals on the ground from organizations like the Red Cross and volunteers who dropped everything to help people they don’t even know,” Sente continued. “I urge our community to work together to rise above the challenges we will face as the healing and rebuilding phase continues.”
