SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, issued the following statement in response to recent comments from Governor Bruce Rauner on Senate Bill 1, a measure to ensure equitable funding for public education and to increase resources to local schools:

“Governor Rauner’s refusal to sign the school funding reform plan into law is unnecessarily putting our children’s education at risk. I am calling on the governor to stop using our children as pawns for pushing his radical right-wing agenda.

“The governor likes to say that his plan would provide more resources to our schools, but if it were up to him our schools wouldn’t have received a dime for this coming school year. His veto of the school funding budget is proof he is willing to play politics with our children’s futures.

“I have said since day one that I am ready to work with both sides of the aisle, both chambers, and both executive and legislative branches to make sure that we have a plan in place that is feasible and fair. The governor is more interested in creating another crisis than solving the problems his budget stalemate created.”
