SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia, D-Aurora, released the following statement regarding the massive employee layoff at Family Focus, a social service provider dealing with childhood development programs:
“Yet another agency has found itself a victim of the governor’s destructive budget impasse. The longer he keeps playing politics and blocking the budget making process, more agencies will have to lay-off their employees and cut services to the state’s most vulnerable citizens.
“Family Focus is being forced to lay off 71 percent of their direct program staff, who have done great work for the families of Aurora and the Chicagoland area. They have helped countless families with early childhood, youth development and family support programs for nearly 40 years, and is owed nearly $3 million from the state.
“It is simply unacceptable that when our most vulnerable populations are being left to fend for themselves, the governor refuses to put anti-middle class agenda aside. The governor has the responsibility to start doing the job that the people of Illinois elected him to do. I urge residents not only in my district, but throughout the state, to call Governor Rauner at 217-782-0244 and tell him to come to the table and start compromising on a budget before even more service providers are forced to shut their doors on the state’s most vulnerable citizens.”
