SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A resolution introduced by state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, seeks to connect unemployed veterans with community and state employment resources.

“The idea for a website to help veterans find work was brought to me by local veterans,” said Stuart. “Illinois has one of the highest rates of veteran unemployment in the country. That is unacceptable. This website could help connect veterans to employment services with the ultimate goal of putting veterans back to work. These men and women sacrificed for our country. We have a responsibility to help them get back on their feet and send the message that Illinois is willing and ready to hire veterans.”

Stuart’s House Resolution 389 encourages the Illinois Department of Employment Security to develop a website to connect veterans to employment resources, modeled after Missouri’s “Show Me Heroes” website. The website could include information on employers hiring veterans, job fairs and events, training opportunities and more.
