SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, issued the following statement Wednesday:
“For two years, Governor Rauner has jeopardized the wellbeing of many of our middle-class families and our state’s most vulnerable residents in order to force changes that will only benefit big corporations and further enrich corporate CEOs.
“I continue to urge Governor Rauner to return to the negotiating table and work towards passing a fair and responsible budget, and compromise on real reforms that grow the economy and lift up the middle class. I am ready to make the compromises necessary to end this budget crisis.
“I agree with some items on the governor’s agenda, and have taken action on them: I supported a property tax relief package this spring to lower taxes for every single homeowner in Illinois and I have consistently supported freezing property taxes. I also helped pass real reforms to cut taxes and fees on small and medium-sized employers, and invest in businesses that invest in Illinois by providing tax credits for businesses that create jobs while banning taxpayer-funded deals for corporations that ship our jobs overseas.
“The time for political games is over. If the governor is serious about solving this budget crisis, he will stop campaigning and work with the Legislature in good faith to find common ground. I am urging him to rejoin bipartisan negotiations immediately.”
