SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, issued the following statement Wednesday:

“I am disappointed that Illinois’ budget impasse continues to drag on and causes harm to our most vulnerable. I have consistently advocated for the passage of a responsible and balanced budget, and I am hopeful that during these next few weeks we can come together on a true solution for the deteriorating financial situation the state of Illinois has been in for the past two years. I have consistently voted to provide emergency funding for the essential programs our most vulnerable residents rely on. I believe compromises can be made by both sides of the aisle to end this devastating budget impasse.

“There were areas of success in the Senate; unfortunately these Senate bills came to the House seven days ago; with little time to review and pass these important bills. I look forward to working in a bi-partisan fashion to pass a responsible and balanced budget that properly funds our schools and reduces property taxes.

“There are areas of reform where I agree with Governor Rauner and I have attempted to find common ground. This year I supported a bipartisan plan to cut property taxes for every single homeowner in Illinois. I also backed a plan to improve our business climate in Illinois. I passed legislation creating an Entrepreneur Learners Permit and providing assistance to new business owners. In addition, I voted on legislation that would consolidate our many units of local government, ensure workers’ compensation reform savings will be passed onto small businesses, and other legislation which cuts taxes and fees on small and medium-sized businesses.”
