HARRISBURG, ILL. – State Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, a strong supporter of local law enforcement both locally and throughout the state of Illinois, is recognizing law enforcement officers for their hard work and dedication during National Police Week.
“Police officers risk everything to keep our communities safe for us, and they work hard to ensure and protect our area’s wellbeing,” said Phelps. “I want to take the time to thank all police officers and law enforcement throughout Southern Illinois that work hard and dedicate countless hours to the benefit of our region.”
Phelps has proven to be a strong supporter of police officers and other law enforcement officials, sponsoring a measure, House Bill 778, which would strengthen the penalties for offenders that commit violent acts against police.
“Our law enforcement officers deserve the utmost respect, and I believe that they should be protected under the law that they help to defend,” said Phelps. “I’m a proud supporter of our law enforcement, and I will continue to support legislation in Springfield that help defend those who risk their lives every single day to help keep our streets safe.”
