RED BUD, Ill. – State Rep. Jerry Costello, II, D-Smithton, is recognizing the importance of law enforcement both at the local and state level throughout Illinois during National Police Week.
“Those who chose a career in law enforcement deserve the utmost respect,” Costello said. “These brave men and women are selfless individuals, putting their lives on the line to protect us and our communities. Too often, law enforcement doesn’t receive the thanks that they deserve. As a former police officer, I am proud to support law enforcement and thank them for their service to our communities.”
Costello’s legislative agenda reflects his background and strong support for protecting law enforcement. He recently sponsored legislation that would increase the penalties against anyone who commits violence again a member of law enforcement due to their job.
“Police officers put their lives on the line for the safety of the general public, and we should make sure that we protect their safety,” Costello said. “We should always recognize the important, and often thankless, job that our police officers do to help keep us safe. I would encourage everyone to thank and show their appreciation to our police officers during this week.”
