JUNCTION, ILL. – State Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg, recently introduced a resolution to the Illinois House of Representatives honoring the Gallatin County High School WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) Team for placing first in the 2017 State Championship at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
“It’s amazing to see Southern Illinois kids achieving great things through our local school programs and clubs like WYSE,” said Phelps. “I want to congratulate each and every one of the members of the Gallatin County High School WYSE Team for an awesome accomplishment.”
The Gallatin County High School WYSE Team was presented the resolution, House Resolution 352, as well as individual certificates to award them for their accomplishments. The students recognized were Kelsi May, Kaylee McGuire, Jacob Watson, Caitlin Lynch, Lilly Galt, Bryon Wargel, Michaela Springer, Dylan Boggs, Nathan Shults, Dylan Garrison, Aaron Walters, Kiley Brown, David Matthews and Kallie Keasler. The WYSE Team was coached by Lindsay Adams and Billyjoe Menard. The team has also been represented at the state level 16 times in the last 20 years, and 2017 is the second consecutive year that Gallatin County High School has placed first.
“I look forward to seeing each of these young people continue to shine brightly in the future,” continued Phelps. “This is yet another testament to the importance of extracurricular programs for our schools throughout Illinois, and I will continue to support the funding for programs like these, so that our children have the opportunities for success.”
