SPRINGFIELD, Ill. –State Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Oak Park, is sponsoring legislation that will prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions.

“During such a time of uncertainty with health coverage across the nation, Illinois should set a precedent to ensure that all people have health coverage despite having a pre-existing condition,” Lilly said. “It is important that everyone has access to affordable healthcare.”

Lilly is supporting House Bill 2959, which prevents individual and group health insurance groups from denying coverage to an individual based on pre-existing conditions. According to Families USA, there are over 2.9 million Illinoisans with pre-existing medical conditions. This legislation aims to protect these individuals.

“The current administration’s attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act has created extreme uncertainty for the millions of residents who depend upon it,” said Lilly. “This bill will allow us to take the necessary steps to make sure that Illinoisans will not lose their health coverage.”

Lilly represents the 78th District, which includes parts of Chicago, Oak Park, Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, and Melrose Park.
