ROCKFORD, Ill. – Aiming to provide economic opportunity for every individual in Illinois, state Rep. Litesa Wallace, D-Rockford, will create and review legislation as chair of the House Economic Justice and Equity Committee during the 100th General Assembly.
“The challenge of the Economic Justice and Equity Committee is to objectively create legislation that addresses the issue of economic inequality in Illinois,” Wallace said. “We have an opportunity to take a closer look at economic injustice in our state, and craft solutions that can improve the lives of every resident.”
Legislation considered by the Economic Justice and Equity Committee will include bills focused on advancing economic opportunity for minorities, women and at-risk residents. The first two bills posted to the committee would create task forces to study and implement policies to improve the economic standing of African Americans and at-risk women.
Wallace will also use her background experience as mental health counselor on the Mental Health Committee. Additionally, she will serve on the Agriculture and Conservation Committee, the Business Growth and Incentives Committee, Financial Institutions Committee, Human Services Committee, Public Benefits Subcommittee and Restorative Justice Committee.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to take a serious look at how we can improve economic opportunity in this state,” Wallace said. “We need to lift up every resident.”
