CHICAGO, Ill. – Between all of the other daily tasks people have to manage, remembering to renew a vehicle registration is something that can fall through the cracks. State Rep. Melissa Conyears-Ervin, D- Chicago, is informing residents that the Secretary of State’s office offers an Email Renewal Notice program that will send residents an email reminder about their vehicle registration.
“Between balancing a family, work, and all of the other responsibilities we face on a daily basis, remembering to renew your vehicle registration is something that can be easily forgotten,” Conyears-Ervin said. “I encourage all residents to utilize the Secretary of State’s Email Renewal Notice program as a helpful reminder on their vehicle registration.”
Residents interested in signing up for the service can visit www.ilsos.gov/greenmail to sign up for the email alerts. Residents will need their Registration ID and PIN, which can be found on their paper renewal notice. If a resident does not have their notice, they can call the Secretary of State’s Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980.
The program will send residents several reminder emails, the first, a month before their vehicle registration expires, a follow-up a few weeks later if it has not been renewed, and a final reminder once the registration has expired.
“I wanted to share this service with our community because it’s one way to help avoid driving with an expired registration and facing an additional fee when the vehicle is registered for the proper year,” Conyears-Ervin said. “If my office can be of any assistance with the process or sign-up, or if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.”
