SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, will focus on protecting funding for critical local services as the new chairperson of the House Counties and Townships Committee during the upcoming legislative session.

“Serving as chairperson of the Counties and Townships Committee will give me the opportunity to ensure our local governments receive the resources they need to provide services to their communities,” Walsh said. “I am opposed to proposals in the Legislature to shift resources away from local communities and I will be a strong voice for protecting these important dollars for Will County.”

Walsh has been a strong voice on the need to protect funding for local services such as road repair and other infrastructure improvements. In addition to serving as chairperson of the Counties and Townships Committee, Walsh has also been appointed vice chairperson of the Cost Benefit Analysis Committee for the upcoming legislative session and will serve as a voting member on the Labor and Commerce Committee, Mass Transit Committee and Public Utilities Committee. The Labor and Commerce Committee will be responsible for overseeing several key issues during the upcoming session, including workers’ compensation reform.

“I am opposed to efforts that strip away the rights of hardworking Illinois men and women just to pad the profits of huge, out-of-state corporations,” Walsh said. “Instead, I support legislation that builds on previous workers’ compensation reform to ensure that these savings are being passed onto businesses.”
