SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Standing in solidarity with students, teachers and administrators of higher education, state Rep. Jaime Andrade, attended a rally yesterday at the Capitol demanding full funding for the state’s higher education system and the Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant program for low-income college students.

“It’s essential that we fully fund our higher education institutions that serve as job creators and economic engines for entire communities in our state,” Andrade said. “It’s also essential that we restore funding for scholarship programs for low-income students. These students set goals and worked hard to make a college education a part of their future and the state should keep its promise to them.”

The Illinois Coalition to Invest in Higher Education organized the rally, which attracted higher education students, faculty and administrators, as well as various elected officials and union activists. Included in the demonstration were students and faculty from Northeastern Illinois University, located in Andrade’s 40th House District.
